BLAST Swim Meet Expectations

If you have any questions and need assistance at the meet, please refer to your site group on WhatsApp or TeamUnify to get in touch with your coach or site parent.

PLEASE CHECK OUR WHATSAPP GROUPS FOR ANY MESSAGES FROM COACHES OR TEAM ADMIN.

PARENTS

PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME

Your swimmer(s) must be checked in 40 minutes before the start of your event to swim that event. Once you are checked in for the day, there is no need to re-check in. If you miss an event after you have checked in for that day, you may be penalized and be scratched from your next event. If you miss an event, please see your coach.

What to do when you get to the meet?

  • When you arrive at the meet, please get your child checked in at the check-in area. Look for signs. They will have Sharpies to write your event # on your hand. If your child has an administrative issue, see your coach.
  • Age groups for Sat/Sun am sessions - there are typically 2 sessions.
  • Parents need to stay out of the starting block area at all times. Please wait for your swimmer to come to you. Please check the meet sheet (available on OnDeck) for any specific information about spectators and where they are allowed.

AND, PLEASE BE ON TIME FOR YOUR TIMING ASSIGNMENT!

SWIMMERS

BE ON TIME!

  • You must be checked in 40 minutes before the start of your event to swim that event. Once you are checked in for the day, there is no need to re-check in.
  • Check-in with your coach – there will be coaches on the pool deck.
  • If you miss an event after you have checked in for that day, you may be penalized and be scratched from your next event. If you miss an event, please see your coach.
  • Once your events are posted, write your heat #, lane #, and what you’re swimming on your hand.
    • For example:  #4  5   3  fr (freestyle)
    • Write it horizontally on your hand as you look at your hand with your thumb facing in/pinky out. Write it on the top of the back of your child’s hand).
  • Sit together as a team, look for the team canopies.
  • Your coach will come and get you for a warm-up. For older swimmers, your coach will let you know what lane warm-up is in and what time warm-up is at.  If you have ANY questions, ask your coach or post in your WhatsApp group.

It is your responsibility to get to your events on time!

  • Please listen to the speakers for what event they are on.
  • 25 yard events are sometimes staged so you need to report to the staging area when your event is called.
  • 50 yard and up events are not and you must report to the starting blocks by yourself.
  • What if I am swimming the 500, 1000, or 1650 Freestyle?
    • You must provide your own timer AND lap counter. If you do not have a lap counter, please see The Swim Guy and buy one (you can find our team page on the team’s website. Click on “join blast now” & then “what gears you need”).
    • When swimming a distance event, you must check in for this event before that event starts. This is considered a second check-in. If you have questions, please talk to your coach.

Please remember to see your coach before and after you swim.

All swimmers should warm down. Warming down refers to recovery swimming after a race. This is vital for your recovery and prep for your next event.

  • 10 AND UNDERS - 200 YARDS
  • 11 & UP - a minimum of 400 yards after each race.

The night before the meet

Please get to bed early and eat a healthy dinner. You may eat something light for breakfast.
